Cancelling, refunds and the notice you give before a flight

A cancelled booking never leaves a traveller owing the house damages. What may be kept is the share of the fee already earned at the moment your message arrives, and that share is set by one thing: how much notice you give.

The notice scale

• More than twenty-four hours before the booked start: the whole deposit is returned.
• Inside the final twenty-four hours, while she has not yet set out: half the deposit is kept as fee already earned, and half is returned.
• After she has left to reach you: all of the deposit stays with the house as fee earned.

Two things reduce what is kept. If someone else takes the hour you gave up, the deposit is returned in full. If you can show that the house lost less than the share it kept, it keeps only that smaller figure.

A worked late arrival

Ninety minutes at an airport hotel, EUR 270, confirmed with EUR 135, for a landing just after midnight. The airline cancels the flight two days before: EUR 135 comes back. It is delayed and you cancel at six that evening, before she has set out: EUR 67.50 is kept and EUR 67.50 returned. You cancel at a quarter past midnight while she is already on the motorway: the EUR 135 is kept, unless the slot is taken by another guest.

Moving instead of cancelling

One move to another date is free, provided the request reaches the thread more than twenty-four hours before the booked start and the new date falls within fourteen days. A second move, or one requested inside the final day, is read on the notice scale as a cancellation sent at that moment would be.

Airlines and force majeure

A flight delayed, cancelled or rescheduled by an airline counts as a change on the traveller's side, not as force majeure, and it follows the scale above. Force majeure covers events outside either side's control, such as a transport shutdown or an official instruction that makes her journey impossible; then the deposit becomes credit. The cancellation policy covers every case in full.
